Saint Michaels Shuts Down Franklin Pierce, 15-1
Ferreira scores once to move into second-place tie in career points at Franklin Pierce

COLCHESTER, Vt. (March 26,
2008) – Eight Purple Knights found the net at least
once as Saint Michael’s College defeated the Franklin Pierce
University men’s lacrosse team, 15-1, in Northeast-10
Conference action at Duffy Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) led all scorers with
four goals, all coming in the first half as the Purple Knights
jumped out to a 9-1 lead at the half. Classmate Mike Boerma
(Concord, Mass./Lawrence Academy) also had a game-high four points
on three goals and an assist, while sophomore Charlie Niznansky
(Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) added three goals for Saint
Michael’s.
Senior captain Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Maine/Mount
Blue) tallied the lone goal of the game for the Ravens,
with the assist credited to freshman Jack Scanlan (Great
Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North). With his goal, Ferreira tied
Jimmy Ward ’04 for second place all-time in points at
Franklin Pierce with 78, while he also edged closer to second
all-time in goals at the school, as his 61 career tallies trail
Ward by only two.
Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) earned the win
for Saint Michael’s by making two saves in the first half
before ceding the net to Zach Jandl (Brookline, N.H./Vermont
Academy), who stopped all six shots he faced in the second half.
Franklin Pierce freshman Shea Campbell (Centerport,
N.Y./Harborfields) made seven saves and allowed 12 goals
over the first 41:00 to take the loss.
Saint Michael’s dominated the first quarter, scoring all
four goals of the opening 15 minutes, before Ferreira put the
Ravens on the board with his 10th goal of the year from Scanlan.
The Purple Knights continued to control play after Ferreira’s
tally, scoring the final 11 goals of the game and holding a
decisive 26-9 advantage in shots on goal for the game.
Franklin Pierce (2-3, 1-1 NE-10) will return home for five
consecutive games at Sodexho Field, beginning with a conference
matchup against Pace University on Saturday at 3 p.m. Saint
Michael’s (3-2, 2-0 NE-10) hosts Bryant University Saturday
at 1 p.m.
