WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2008) - Senior captain Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Maine/ Mount Blue) tied his career high with six goals as Franklin Pierce University earned its first victory of the season with a 13-10 win over Rollins College in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Showalter Field.

Ferreira came one goal short of tying the program's single-game record of seven, achieved on two occasions by Jimmy Ward '04, and added an assist for a career high-tying seven points. The Ravens also received offensive support from sophomore Lucas Hamory (Canton, Mass./Canton), who set new career highs with three goals and two assists for five points, and junior Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury), who found the net twice.

Senior captain Russell Hodson (Chilmark, Mass./Martha's Vineyard) also had a good day for the Ravens, scoring once and dominating the face-off position by winning 15 of his 21 draws on the afternoon.

Four Rollins players had two goals apiece for the Tars. Sophomore Christopher Gorman (Casselberry, Fla./Lake Howell) added four assists to his pair of goals for a team-high six points, while classmate Charlie Shelly (Parkland, Fla./Woodberry Forest) had two goals and two assists for four points.

Freshman goaltender D.A. Ivie (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) made his first career start for Franklin Pierce and earned his first collegiate victory by making four saves on 14 shots. The Ravens kept freshman goalie Zach Cole (Rumford, R.I./Moses Brown) very busy on the other end, putting 31 shots on net and forcing Cole into 18 saves.

Rollins came out strong, scoring the first three goals of the game, and held a 5-2 lead 6:07 into the second period after Gorman's first of the day. Ferreira single-handedly brought the Ravens back, however, scoring five of the game's next six goals to turn the team's three-goal deficit into a 7-6 lead with 8:36 remaining in the third quarter.

Lucas Hamory

Lucas Hamory posted a career-high five points on three goals and two assists at Rollins on Sunday.

The game was knotted at seven when Franklin Pierce scored three consecutive goals to take a 10-7 lead, led by the first career tally for freshman Jon Martinez (Waterbury Center, Vt./Rice Memorial) and one from Hodson only 19 seconds apart.  A quick counter attack by Hamory lengthened the Raven lead to three heading into the fourth quarter.

The Tars came back with three goals of their own to re-tie the game at 10, capped by a man-down goal from Andy Katz (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) with 5:22 left in the game, but the Ravens responded with the final three goals of the afternoon to earn the victory. Flanigan notched the game-winning tally 31 seconds after Katz's score, and insurance tallies by Hamory and Flanigan provided the final margin.

Franklin Pierce (1-1, 0-0 NE-10) will complete its brief two-game Florida swing on Tuesday evening, when the Ravens travel west to Saint Leo, Fla., to take on Saint Leo University beginning at 7 p.m. Rollins (2-6, 0-1 SSC) returns to action on Monday afternoon when the  team hosts Dominican College (N.Y.) at 3 p.m.
