RINDGE, N.H. (April 26, 2008) – The Assumption College men’s lacrosse team scored eight of the game’s last 10 goals as the Greyhounds pulled away from Franklin Pierce University in the second half for a 15-7 Northeast-10 Conference victory on Senior Day at Sodexho Field on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Brandon MacNeil (Surrey, B.C./Delta Secondary) was one of five Greyhounds to find the net twice on the afternoon, leading a balanced Assumption attack with two goals and two assists. Freshman John Murphy (Walpole, Mass./Bridgton Academy) had two goals and an assist and classmate Jeff Moore (Worcester, Mass./Saint John’s) added a goal and two assists.

Junior Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) was the lone Raven to find the net more than once, tallying a pair of goals. Senior captain Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Maine/ Mount Blue), sophomore Lucas Hamory (Canton, Mass./Canton) and freshman Jack Scanlan (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) each had a goal and an assist for Franklin Pierce.

Assumption scored the first three goals of the game to take an early lead, but a man-up goal by Scanlan and Flanigan’s 18th tally of the year closed the gap to 3-2 with 6:04 left in the first quarter. Assumption scored three straight goals to end the first quarter, including the last two by Murphy 1:16 apart, to take a 6-2 lead after one.

The lead was 7-3 early in the second quarter when the Ravens put together their best offensive stretch of the afternoon, scoring three consecutive goals to lower the deficit to two. Ferreira began the surge with his 24th tally of the season, and Flanigan capped it 3:12 later to bring the score to 7-5 with 9:01 left in the first half.

Assumption got two goals back before the end of the half, however, and then outscored Franklin Pierce, 6-2, in the second half to secure the victory.

Senior Chris Bird (North Andover, Mass./Saint John’s Prep) made 10 saves to earn the win for Assumption, while freshman goaltender Shea Campbell (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) took the loss for Franklin Pierce despite making 15 saves on 29 shots.

Before the game, the Ravens held a brief pre-game ceremony to honor senior captains Ferreira, Russell Hodson (Chilmark, Mass./Martha's Vineyard) and Matt Sampson (Scituate, Mass./ Scituate), who will be playing their final game in a Raven uniform tomorrow afternoon.

Franklin Pierce (2-11, 1-8 NE-10) will play its final game of the 2008 season tomorrow at noon, as the Ravens host top-ranked Le Moyne College at Sodexho Field. Assumption completes its season with a 4-11 overall record and a 2-8 conference mark.
