Southern N.H. Stops Franklin Pierce, 22-9

Rennick totals a game-high nine points in Penmen victory

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 10, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team suffered a tough 22-9 setback to Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening. The Penmen registered 13 goals in the second half to collect their third victory of the season.

Southern N.H. junior Spencer Rennick (Peabody, Mass./Veterans Memorial) led all scorers with a game-high nine points on four goals and five assists. Senior Jon Habel (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and sophomore Sean Ball (Salem, N.H./Lawrence Academy) were also solid for the Penmen, totaling four goals apiece, while senior Joe Young (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and junior Chris Dindler (Stephney, Australia) added two goals and three assists each.  

Senior Michael Willis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) led the Franklin Pierce attack with a team high six points on four goals and two assists. Sophomore Ryan Boller (New Cannan, Conn./New Cannan) netted two goals for the Ravens, while freshman Lucas Hamory (Canton, Mass./Canton) chipped in with one goal and one assist.

Southern N.H. gained an early 4-2 advantage after the first period. Mike Willis opened the scoring for Franklin Pierce just 3:34 into the period, but the Penmen rallied off three unanswered goals just two minutes later to take a 3-1 lead. Willis registered his second goal of the game for the Ravens at the 4:38 mark,  but the Penmen fired back with a goal by Habel with 0:01 remaining in the period.

In the second period, Southern N.H. maintained its two goal advantage as each team registered five goals apiece. Boller led the Franklin Pierce attack with two goals in the period, while Willis, Hamory, and sophomore Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) chipped in with one score apiece. Habel led the Penmen charge with two goals scored in the frame, while Young and Dindler chipped in with one goal and one assist.

In the second half, Southern N.H. exploded for 13 goals and limited Franklin Pierce to only two scores to preserve the victory. Rennick led the Penmen attack with three goals and three assists, while Ball registered two goals scored. Wills and sophomore Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne) recorded the second half goals for the Ravens.  

Southern N.H. out-shot Franklin Pierce 48 to 31 in the contest. Senior goaltender Greg Palladino (Hingham, Mass./) made nine saves for the Penmen while senior Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) stopped ten shots in net for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (3-6, 0-5 NE-10) will be in action again on Saturday as it travels to No. 5 ranked Bryant University at 1 p.m. Southern N.H. (3-5, 3-1 NE-10) will travel to No. 10 ranked Merrimack College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
