Saint Anselm Rolls Past Franklin Pierce, 15-5

Murphy leads Hawks to victory with a game-high five points

RINDGE, N.H. (April 22, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team suffered a tough 15-5 setback to Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at Sodexho Field. The Hawks gained a 9-3 lead at half time and never looked back to collect their fifth victory of the season.

Sophomore Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) led the Saint Anselm scoring attack with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. Junior Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass./B.C. High) was also solid, collecting four points with three goals and one assist, while senior Brian Hubert (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) added two scores and two helpers. Freshman Matt O'Connell (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) chipped in with three points.

Franklin Pierce received solid offensive production from junior Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) who registered a team-high four points on three goals and three assists. Freshman Brendan Rooney (Newton, Mass./Newton) tallied two points for the Ravens with one goal and one assist, while sophomore Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) netted one goal.

Saint Anselm started the match with an early two goal lead as Hubert registered back to back goals at the 10:19 mark. Sophomore James Morin (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) and Chris Murphy added two more scores to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead, but Franklin Pierce broke its scoring silence with 0:24 remaining in the period on Flanigan's 13th goal of the season.

In the second period, Franklin Pierce came out firing with a quick score by Rooney at the 14:03 mark, but Saint Anselm responded with three consecutive goals to gain a 7-2 advantage. Ferreira lifted the Ravens with his first score of the game at the 5:54 mark, but the Hawks tallied two more goals late in the period to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.

Saint Anselm continued its offensive production in the third period, outscoring Franklin Pierce 4-1. Trocki led the Hawk charge two goals in the frame, while sophomore Myles Clancy (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) and junior Rob Zellner (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) chipped in with one goal apiece. Ferreira netted the lone goal for the Raven off an assist from Rooney.

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring in the fourth period, as Ferreira completed the hat-trick with his 19th goal of the season at the 9:43 mark. Saint Anselm countered with goals by junior John Griffin (Hingham, Mass./Sacred Heart) and freshman Rob Scuzzerella (Saugus, Mass./Saugus) to preserve the victory.

Saint Anselm out-shot Franklin Pierce 37 to 23 in the contest. Senior goaltender Andrew Roy (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) registered ten saves for the Hawks, while senior goaltender Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) stopped 16 shots for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (3-9, 0-8 NE-10) will be in action again on Tuesday as it travels to Dominican College at 4 p.m. Saint Anselm College (5-7, 3-5 NE-10) will travel to Pace University next Saturday at 1 p.m.
