#1 Le Moyne Silences Franklin Pierce, 19-1

Dolphins use balanced attack to earn fourth victory of the season

RINDGE, N.H. (March 25, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team suffered a tough 19-1 setback to No. 1 ranked Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at Sodexho Field. The Dolphins registered 14 unanswered goals in the first half to earn their fourth victory of the season.

Le Moyne used a balanced offensive attack as 11 different players registered goals. Junior Brad Wolken (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) led the Dolphin attack with four points on a team-high three goals and one assist. Junior Nick Gatto (Syracuse, N.Y./Henniger) and senior Matt Emerson (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) were also solid, posting four points on two goals and two assists each. Junior Alex Bily (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) added three goals in the contest, while classmate Mike McDonald (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) paced the Dolphin offense with a game-high four assists.

Sophomore Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) scored the lone goal for Franklin Pierce, while senior Mike Willis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) chipped in with one assist.

Le Moyne opened the scoring early in the first period as Wolken netted his first goal of the game just 0:37 into the match. Wolken added two more scores within the Dolphins six goal, first-period, while Nick Gatto and sophomore Brian Griffin (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) rounded out the Le Moyne offensive attack.

In the second period, Le Moyne exploded for eight unanswered goals to take a commanding 14-0 lead into halftime. Junior Mike McLaughlin (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) ignited the Dolphin rally with a goal just 0:18 into the period. Alex Bily led the Dolphin scoring surge with a hat-trick in the period, while Emerson connected for two scores.

Le Moyne added three more goals in the third period to increase its lead to 17-0. Junior Tom Donahue (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesse) opened the scoring just 0:16 into the period with his second goal of the game, while senior Ed Street (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and junior Andrew Carducci (Syracuse, N.Y./Henniger) added one goal apiece.

In the final period, Le Moyne added two more goals to its lead before Franklin Pierce broke its scoring silence on Flanigan's second goal of the season. Senior goaltender Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H./Concord) earned his fourth victory of the season with 15 minutes of shutout goaltending for the Dolphins. Senior goaltender Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md./Col Zadok Magruder) made eight saves for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (1-2, 0-1 NE-10) will be in action again on Wednesday as it hosts Saint Michael's College at 4 p.m. Le Moyne College (4-1, 1-1 NE-10) will travel to Merrimack College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
