Keene State Tops Franklin Pierce, 18-7

Jamie LeSage leads Owls to season-opening victory with a game-high six points

MILFORD, N.H. (March 8, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team suffered a tough 18-7 setback to Keene State College in season-opening action this afternoon at the Hampshire Sports Dome.

Freshman Jamie LeSage (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) led the Keene State offensive attack with a game-high six points on five goals and one assist. Sophomore Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) was also solid, totaling five points on three goals and two assists, while senior Sean Panora (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and junior Peter Lauranzano (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) each chipped in four points.

Freshman Lucas Hamory (Canton, Mass./Canton) led the Franklin Pierce attack with three goals for three points, while senior Nick Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) added two points on one goal and one assist. Freshman Brendan Rooney (Newton, Mass./Newton North) collected one goal in his first collegiate contest, while sophomores Ryan Boller (New Cannan, Conn./New Cannan) and Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne) tallied one score apiece.

Keene State opened the scoring early in the first period as Lauranzano connected for his first collegiate goal just 0:57 into the period. Franklin Pierce fired back four minutes later on Hamory's first goal of the season, but the Owls collected two unanswered goals in the final minutes of the period to take a 3-1 advantage.

Keene State notched six goals in the second period to increase its lead to 9-2. Lauranzano ignited the rally with his second goal of the match just 0:51 into the period. Jamie LeSage added two scores in the surge by the Owls, while senior Mike LeSage (Exeter, N.H./Exeter), sophomore Alex Loscialpo (Westport, Conn./The Hyde School), and junior Ryan Hazelton (Chester, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) tallied one goal apiece.

In the third period, Keene State exploded for eight more goals to take a commanding 17-3 lead. Santa Fe lead the Owl charge with three goals and two assists in the period, while Jaime LeSage and Panora chipped in with one goal and one assist each. Sophomore Casey Broderson (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy), Lauranzano, and Mike LeSage rounded out the third period scoring for the Owls.

Franklin Pierce collected four scores in the fourth period to cut the Keene State lead, but junior goaltender Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) posted nine saves to preserve the Owls first victory of the season. Senior goaltender Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md./Col Zadok Magruder) stopped 13 shots for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) will be in action again on Tuesday as it travels to Dominican College at 4 p.m. Keene State (1-0, 0-0 LEC) will face New England College on Tuesday in Orlando, Florida.
