Assumption Stops Franklin Pierce, 17-8

K. Klaskin collects seven points in Greyhound victory

WORCESTER, MASS. (April 28, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team suffered an 17-8 setback to Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon. The Greyhounds registered seven first period goals to collect their fourth victory of the season.

Freshman Kyle Klaskin (Norfolk, Mass./Xaverian) led the Assumption offensive attack with a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists. Junior Matt Klaskin (Norfolk, Mass./Xaverian) was also solid totaling five points on four goals and one assist, while freshman Matt Reynolds (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) registered four points on two scores and two helpers.

Senior Michael Willis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) was solid for Franklin Pierce, totaling a team-high four goals, while classmate Nick Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) recorded three points on one goal and two assists. Sophomores Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne) and Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) aided the Ravens with one goals scored, while freshman Devon Dupuis (Lynn, Mass./Lynn) tallied his first collegiate goal.

Assumption jumped out to an early 7-2 lead after the first period of play. Sophomore Mike Molk (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) led the Greyhounds in the first frame with two goals and one assist, while Reynolds collected two scores and one helper. Kruse connected first for the Ravens at the 11:32 mark, while Willis followed with his first goal of the game with 6:41 remaining in the period.

Assumption increased its lead to 11-3 in the second period behind the hot shooting of Matt Klaskin. Klaskin registered two goals in the stanza, while Kevin Klaskin paced the Greyhounds with two assists. Flanigan netted the lone Raven goal at the 11:39 mark.

In the third period, Franklin Pierce fired back, outscoring Assumption 4-2. Willis ignited the Raven rally with two goals in the period, while Dupuis and Cowden added single scores.

In the fourth period, Assumption sealed the victory with a four goal scoring surge. Willis opened the scoring with his 22nd goal of the season for the Ravens, but the Greyhounds collected four unanswered goals on scores by the Klaskins and freshman Josh Joslin (Hartland, Vt./Hartford) to close out the period.

Assumption out-shot Franklin Pierce 40 to 33 in the contest. Junior goaltender Chris Bird (North Andover, Mass./St. John's Prep) recorded 16 stops for the Greyhounds, while senior goaltender Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) stopped 17 shots for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce concludes its season with a 3-11 record overall, 0-9 in the Northeast-10. Assumption finishes the regular season with an overall record of 4-10, 3-6 in the NE-10.
