Pace Slips Past Franklin Pierce, 14-7

Gregory and Lysik lead Setters' charge with 11 points in the match

RINDGE, N.H. (April 15, 2006) - The Franklin Pierce Men's lacrosse team suffered a tough 14-7 loss to Pace University in Northeast-10 action this afternoon at Sodexho Field. The Setters outscored the Ravens 8-4 in the first half, before posting six more goals in the second frame to earn their fourth victory of the season.

Pace University sophomore Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) led all scorers with a game-high six points, notching one goal and five assists. Senior Kenneth Lysik (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and freshman Dan Abberton (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) were also solid for the Setters, posting five points on the day. Lysik led the Setters with a game-high four goals scored and one assist, while Abberton chipped in with one goal and four helpers.  

Franklin Pierce received solid offensive production from freshman Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne). Kruse connected for two goals in the match up and added one assist to lead the Ravens with three points. Classmate Ryan Boller (New Cannan, Conn./New Cannan) was also productive on the offensive side, recording two goals. Sophomore Rob Frankel (East Seatauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and freshmen Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) and Conor McCullough (Dover, N.H./) each chipped in with one goal apiece.

Franklin Pierced opened the scoring, taking an early 3-1 lead on a pair of goals by Kruse and a single score by Frankel. Pace rallied for three straight goals in the final minutes of the quarter to take 4-3 lead into the second stanza.

Pace outscorrf Franklin Pierce 4-1 in the second quarter, increasing its lead to four goals. Setter junior Robert Cornetta (Huntington Station, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) netted two goals in the frame, while Boller netted his first for Franklin Pierce.

In the third frame, each team scored twice, keeping the Pace lead at four. In the fourth quarter, the Setters tacked on four more goals to secure the victory. Lysik registered the first two goals of the period, while sophomore Justin Page (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Abberton netted one apiece. Boller connected for his second goal of the game for Franklin Pierce with 3:57 remaining in the match but the Setters held on for the victory.

Franklin Pierce out-shot Pace 41-27, but Setter freshmen goalkeepers Timothy Matheis (Lindehurst, N.Y./Lindehurst) and Thomas Duca (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) combined for 19 saves on the day. Franklin Pierce goalkeepers, senior Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) and sophomore Freeman Scott (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) posted ten saves for the Ravens.  

Franklin Pierce (0-9, 0-8 NE-10) will be in action again on Monday as it hosts Le Moyne College at 7 p.m. Pace University (4-6, 4-4 NE-10) will take the field again on Tuesday as it travels to Merrimack College at 7 p.m.
