Franklin Pierce Flies Past New Haven, 15-10

RINDGE, N.H. (May 5, 2003) - Sophomore Nick Mincolla (Cohasset, Mass./Gov. Drummer Acad.) netted six goals and dished two assists to lead Franklin Pierce to a 15-10 victory over the University of New Haven in non-conference men's lacrosse action at the Franklin Pierce Field Hockey/Lacrosse Field this afternoon.

Junior Jimmy Ward (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) posted his best performance of the season with four markers, while senior Andrew McEntee (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) totaled three goals and an assist in the win. Junior Derek Mandatori (Newton, Mass./Newton North) chipped in a pair of goals, while senior Brendon Dillon (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) added a pair of assists for the Ravens.

The Chargers were led by sophomore Chadd Burlingame who recorded four goals. Freshmen Ed Geiger and Alex Prezioso both tallied two goals and two assists for New Haven.

The Ravens wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Mincolla netted an unassisted tally just 60 seconds after the whistle to help the Ravens take the one goal lead, but the Chargers battled back two minutes later when senior Matt Harrington one timed a pass from Geiger to knot the score.

The Chargers then went on a run, netting three consecutive markers in a span of five minutes to challenge the Ravens. The Ravens got one back, however, as Mincolla netted his second of the season on the man advantage.

Burlingame posted his third of the quarter to complete the hat trick midway through the first, but Ward helped the Ravens go ahead by one with two pretty tallies to close out the opening quarter.

The Ravens had built a solid 10-6 lead midway through the second half, but the Chargers mounted a comeback scoring three goals to cut the Franklin Pierce lead to one.

Head Coach Jay McCormack then called a timeout at the 7:50 mark of the fourth to settle his Ravens and stall the Chargers momentum. Following the break, the Ravens came out firing, as Ward picked up the rebound off of an initial shot by Dillon and blew it past New Haven netminder, Charlie Miller to spark the offense.

Just 17 seconds later, McEntee went one-on-one and beat Miller out in front to extend the lead to three goals. The Ravens then pulled away for good as Ward and Mincolla each chipped in goals with under four minutes in regulation to make the final, Franklin Pierce 15, New Haven 10.

Senior Andy Cote (Middleton, Mass./Masconomet) earned his second win of the season making 12 saves as well as dishing one assist. Miller totaled 12 saves in 60 minutes of work for the Chargers.

Franklin Pierce closes out the 2003 regular season with a 2-11 record overall, 1-9 finish in the Northeast-10 Conference.
