Bryant Overwhelms Franklin Pierce, 26-4

Barletta registers four goals and two assists to lead Bulldogs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 13, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team fell to Bryant College, ranked No. 4 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, by a score of 26-4 in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse action at Bulldog Stadium this afternoon.

Bryant senior, Kevin Barletta led the Bulldog offense with four goals and two assists for a match-high six points. Chris Pisciotta followed with three goals and two assists, while freshman Ryan Zipperly totaled two goals and dished two helpers in the win.

Sophomore Nick Mincola (Cohasset, Mass./Gov. Drummer Academy) recorded a pair of goals to lead Franklin Pierce. Senior Andrew McEntee (Manhassett, N.Y./Manhassett) and junior Derek Mandatori (Newton, Mass./Newton North) each chipped in markers for the Ravens.

The Bulldogs started the attack immediately, scoring just six seconds into the match. Bryant refused to let up, tacking on three more markers in less than two minutes to take a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs went on to score one more goal before the Ravens answered with a goal from Mandatori midway through the first quarter. It wasn't enough, however, as Bryant netted four goals to close out the quarter and hold an 11-2 advantage.

The Ravens were held scoreless in the second and third quarters before McEntee and Mincola would score the final two Franklin Pierce goals. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper, Andy Cote (Middleton, Mass./Masconomet) made 15 stops before giving way to juniorScott Benfield (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood) who made two saves. Freshman C.J. Squires earned the win as he made no saves in 15 minutes of work for the Bulldogs.
