Men’s Ice Hockey Edged by Saint Michael’s, 1-0

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 15, 2019) – With the team's postseason hopes on the line, the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team came up a goal short on Friday night, as the Ravens suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Saint Michael's at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Senior forward Nic Hermary had the game's only goal in the Northeast-10 Conference affair, as Saint Michael's clinched the fourth and final berth to the NE10 Championship with the victory.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 10-14-1 (5-8-1 NE10), while Saint Michael's improves to 6-15-4 (6-5-3 NE10). The two teams will close out the regular season on Saturday, with a 3 p.m. faceoff at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

Saint Michael's enjoyed a 32-16 advantage in shots over the course of the night, and struck for the lone goal of the contest on a power play early in the second period. From the left half-wall, senior forward Sam D'Antuono sent the puck to the point for sophomore defenseman Andrew Olevitz, who made his way to the middle of the blue line. Olevitz's shot from there was saved, but Hermary put away the follow-up attempt from just outside the crease on the right side, at the 2:48 mark.

Freshman goaltender Kyle Martin (Westford, Mass.) finished with 31 saves against 32 shots and suffered the loss (5-3-0) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. Junior netminder Tim Decker (5-6-3) stopped all 16 shots he faced at the other end of the ice to notch his first shutout of the season for Saint Michael's.
