Men’s Ice Hockey Shutout at Saint Anselm, 4-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. (February 9, 2019) – Again on Saturday afternoon, things were close through two periods, as Franklin Pierce trailed just 1-0 on the road at Sullivan Arena. For the second straight day though, host Saint Anselm put home a trio of third-period goals to pull away, as the Hawks rolled up a 4-0 victory in the Northeast-10 Conference contest. Junior forward Sean Verrier scored twice for Saint Anselm in the win.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 9-13-1 (4-7-1 NE10), while Saint Anselm improves to 14-11-2 (9-3-1 NE10).

The first period went scoreless on Saturday, as did much of the second period, before Saint Anselm finally opened the scoring at the 19:47 mark of the middle frame. Junior forward Mike Ferraro netted the eventual game-winning goal, his 12th tally of the season, while junior defensemen Liam O'Sullivan and Jake Grade provided the assists.

It would be the only goal the Hawks would need, but they put home three goals in the third period to put the game well out of reach. Verrier picked up his eighth of the campaign at 6:34, off of a setup from Grade and sophomore forward John Femia. Verrier struck again just 69 seconds later to make it 3-0, with assists coming this time from Femia and freshman forward Killian Hammersmith.

Sophomore forward Matt Chisholm provided the final marker with an empty-net tally at 16:27. His fourth of the year came off of assists from Femia – who had a three-helper day – and freshman defenseman Sean Healy.

Sophomore goaltender Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) finished with 29 saves against 32 shots over 55:37 and suffered the loss (5-11-1) in net for Franklin Pierce. Freshman Garret Stenberg (Mendham, N.J.) came on for the final 3:33 after the empty-net goal and did not face a shot the rest of the way. At the other end of the ice, senior netminder Colin Soucy (12-10-2) stopped all 20 shots on his goal to post Saint Anselm's first shutout of the season.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Feb. 12, when they return home to host Stonehill in an NE10 contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
