Plis Wins NEIGA Medalist, Named All-New England For Second Straight Season

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 22, 2018) Franklin Pierce University sophomore men's golfer Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) collected medalist honors and an All-New England nod by placing first at the 84th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship hosted by The Captains Golf Course Monday afternoon.

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Mass. With the exception of the World War II years of 1941-45, it has maintained both individual and team championships annually. It is believed to be the largest gathering of collegiate players from NCAA Divisions I, II and III competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout.

Last year, Plis shot a 72 (E) over both days to finish second and earned All-New England honors. This year, the two-time Northeast-10 Conference Golfer of the Week shot a 79 (+7) Sunday and rallied by dropping 11 strokes off his day one card to fire a team-low 68 (-4), the lowest score in the field. The four under showing was also a career-low for the sophomore. Plis climbed five slots on the individual leaderboard as he led all golfers in pars (24), eagles (1) and par-4 scoring (3.91, -1).

Mark Bryant (Assumption College), Stephen Hunt (Saint Anselm College), Augustine DeCordes (American International College), Zach James (American International) and Alec Brunelle (Saint Anselm) all joined Plis as All-New Englanders.

The Ravens responded well Monday after shooting a combined 332 (+44) Sunday to knock off 23 strokes from their first-round total (309, +21). Their 309 (+21) was the second lowest team total during the championship.  Franklin Pierce placed fourth at 621 (+65) and was only one stroke behind AIC for third place. Saint Anselm brought the team championship back with them to Manchester (625, +49).

Junior Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) tied for 11th by dropping three strokes off his round one card to conclude the 36 holes at 161 (+17). Junior Nathan Patterson (Conway, Mass.) moved seven slots on the leaderboard as he subtracted 10 from his Monday showing. The Massachusetts native fired an 88 (+16) Sunday and a 78 (+6) Monday totaling 166 (+22).

Freshman Conner MacDonald (Kennebunkport, Maine) and junior Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) produced 167 (+23) and 176 (+32) scores for Pierce as well.

The Ravens head back to the course in the spring.
