JAFFREY, N.H. (October 15, 2008) - The College of Saint Rose captured the team title at the 2008 Franklin Pierce Fall Classic on the 6,077-yard par-71 layout at The Shattuck this afternoon.
Saint Rose posted a 331 team score to finish tops among five programs at the event, topping second-place Worcester State College (336) by five strokes. Franklin Pierce's "B" squad finished third with a score of 337. Saint Rose freshman Matt Horton (Troy, N.Y./Hoosic Valley) earned medalist honors at the event, posting three-over-par round of 74. Springfield senior Greg Levings (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) finished second after carding a 78.

Senior Josh Lupinek (East Haddam, Conn./Nathan Hale-Ray) led a contingent of three teams that competed for Franklin Pierce at the event. His round of 79 led the "B" squad and was good for a tie for third overall. Sophomore Phil Girard (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) carded an 82 for the "B" team and tied for seventh overall, while sophomore Justin Haapala (Danielson, Conn./Killingly) led the "A" team with an 84 for a ninth place finish.
Franklin Pierce returns to the links on Monday and Tuesday, October 21-22, when it wraps up its fall season at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on Cape Cod.
