This Franklin Pierce University men's basketball recap is presented by Belletetes

EASTON, Mass. (February 16, 2019) – Three Franklin Pierce University men's basketball players scored in double digits, but Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill College junior guard Will Moreton recorded a career-high 40 points in a 92-59 Skyhawk win over the Ravens Saturday afternoon at the Merkert Gymnasium.

With the win, the Skyhawks (13-12, 7-11 NE10) remain on the outside looking in on a NE10 Tournament berth in sixth place. The loss keeps the Ravens (13-12, 9-9 NE10) in fourth place in the league standings and one game in front of Southern New Hampshire for the final playoff spot. FPU can punch their ticket to the conference dance with a win at Assumption on Wednesday.

Graduate forward Jeremy Arthur (Westbury, N.Y.) paced the Raven attack with 13 markers on 5-of-10 (50%) shooting and a 3-for-4 (75%) long range performance. Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) manufactured 11 markers and David Bradbury Jr. (Deep River, Conn.) scored 10 points off the bench.

Moreton tallied 23 of his 40 points in the first half. He completed the contest 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the floor and 8-of-14 (57.1%) from three-point land and was 8-of-8 (100%) from the line. He also snagged four boards and handed out four assists. Teammate, sophomore guard Owen Chose racked up 28 points, five rebounds and two assists on 50% efficiency from the floor and long range.

Stonehill shot 50% (17-for-34) from deep and 48.5% (32-for-66) from the hardwood compared to the Ravens 33.3% (7-for-21) and 38.2% (21-for-55) performance. They were also outrebounded 45-to-25 and never captured the lead in the showdown.

Chose began the contest with a block and a three-pointer to give SC the 3-0 advantage. FPU junior guard Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) put Pierce on the board with a coast to coast one-handed dunk after he collected a defensive rebound. A Michael Boen three ball and a Chose bucket made the score 8-2 in favor of Stonehill. A couple of possessions passed when Raven junior forward Jameson Pierrelus (Martin County, Fla.) hung in the air, was fouled and knocked down a jumper. He completed the old-fashioned three-point play at the line cutting the Raven deficit to 8-5.

Stonehill jumped ahead by eight 16-8 when Moreton tallied an and1. A Moore slash and layup high off the glass coupled with a Bradbury Jr. left-wing three-pointer made it a two-possession game, 16-13 at the 13:03 mark. Bradbury Jr. deadlocked the score 16-16 via a right-wing trey however a couple of minutes later Moreton regained the edge towards the hosts side 19-16. Both squads traded buckets until Moreton sank a trifecta from the top of the point to open up a 26-18 Skyhawk lead with 9:12 left before the break.

Moreton moved the Skyhawks in front by 11, 29-11 when Chose dished off a pass to his teammate in the corner for a wide open three. Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) split a pair of freebies at the charity stripe bringing the Raven deficit to 10 until two consecutive Moreton deep range connections grew the margin to 35-19. Stonehill headed into the half with a 45-26 lead thanks to their three-point attack which resulted in a 29-10 binge since the game was tied at 16 all. Moore gave Pierce some momentum into the half cutting the Pierce margin to 19 when he knocked down a transition three.

Moreton began the second half hitting a deep range trifecta. The Ravens continued to attack drawing as close as 14, 48-34 via eight straight points just two minutes into the new stanza off back-to-back threes by Moore and Arthur. A 17-5 Stonehill spurt increased their edge to 65-39 with 9:51 left and their advantage grew to a high of 38 in the late stages of the contest.

The Ravens remain away from campus on Wednesday, February 20th against NE10 opponent Assumption College at 7:30 p.m.
