Fadojutimi, Arthur Score 20+, Owls Hot Shooting Leads To 100-89 Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (January 23, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University men's basketball junior guard Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) produced a game-high 27 points with 26 of them coming in the second half, but Northeast-10 Conference opponent Southern Connecticut State University ended the Ravens four-game winning streak handing FPU a 100-89 loss Wednesday evening. With the win, the Owls move to 11-8, 6-5 NE10 while the Ravens mark evens at 9-9 and they drop to 5-6 NE10.

Fadojutimi collected a game-high nine rebounds as well coming up one shy of a double-double. He dished out two assists, picked off two passes and blocked one shot while making 8-of-14 (57.1%) of his field goal attempts and 4-of-8 (50%) from beyond the arc.

Teammate Jeremy Arthur (Westbury, N.Y.) tallied his second straight game of 20 points as the graduate student was one marker shy of matching his career-high total with 23 points. He was 9-of-16 (56.3%) from the floor and 5-of-11 (45.5%) from deep. Arthur dished out a team-high three assists as well.

Raven freshman guard Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) was extremely productive in limited minutes matching his personal-best 16 points recorded at Merrimack on December 5, 2018. In 13 minutes of play, Moore was 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the hardwood and 2-of-4 (50%) from long range. Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) racked up 15 points to go along with five rebounds, - three offensive and two steals.

For the Owls, five players recorded double-digit points including Kealan Ives who double-doubled with 18 points and a game-best 10 assists.

SCSU shot 59.7% (37-of-67) for the game and was an efficient 60% (15-of-25) at the three-point line. They pounded the Ravens down low (34-to-24) and outrebounded them (35-to-28). FPU never led in the contest.

Southern Connecticut began the game with a driving hoop and harm minus the free throw via Isaiah McLeod. Two straight Ulyen Coleman trifectas and a CJ Seaforth three-pointer upped the Owl advantage to 11-2 two minutes into the contest Two Coleman free throws increased the hosts edge to 13-2. Raven junior guard Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) stopped the binge by connecting on a left-wing three-ball making it a 13-5 contest. The Owl advantage expanded to 17-5 on the strength of a Seaforth steal to Coleman who was fouled on his layup chance. He knocked down both freebies.

The Ravens poor shooting only amounted to five points over the course of the opening eight minutes of the contest. A Taurus Adams slashing right side drive increased the lead to 19-5. Arthur stopped the binge with a left-wing three-pointer dropping the margin to 11, 19-8. The Owl lead expanded to 24-10 when Ives rifled home a three-pointer on the left wing. Moore responded with two driving right side takes, on one of them he absorbed contact and the other he went coast to coast following a Lolami Lola-Charles (Aberdeen, Md.) steal to bring the Raven deficit to 10, 24-14 with 9:31 left before the break.

A lefty lay-in after a right side drive off the hands of Coleman increased the Owl advantage to 19, 33-14. Arthur spearheaded a 10-3 spurt to make the margin 38-24 with 4:13 left until intermission when he used a jab-step to hit a three-pointer, a fast-break layup a jumper and a Moore three-ball. The hosts closed the half outscoring the Ravens 12-to-6 to lead 50-30 at the break.

Fadojutimi came off a screen and then knocked down back-to-back treys to make the score 53-36. The Owl lead was brought to 15, 55-40 when Fadojutimi drove right side towards the rack. The Raven junior team captain came out the gate firing scoring 10 points over the first two minutes of the second stanza. Two consecutive layups including an Ives steal reestablished a 19 point SCSU advantage.

An 11-0 Raven binge spearheaded by a Fadojutimi triple, dunk and six points via Fasoyiro brought it to a 10 point, 73-63 game with 8:04 to go. Adams and Fasoyiro traded hoop and harms to keep it at a 10 point 76-66 battle. An Arthur block of a Coleman take resulted in the graduate student draining a three-pointer cutting the deficit to seven 78-71. Fadojutimi picked off a pass by Ives and ran to the other end of the court, missed his first layup, grabbed the offensive board and put it in to make to a two-possession game, 80-75 at the 4:45 mark.

SCSU went on a 10-2 scoring binge to take a 13 point, 90-77 advantage with 3:09 left to play with Seaforth throwing in a dagger three-pointer at the 3:09 mark.

The Ravens will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when they travel to Adelphi University for a 3:30 p.m. conference showdown.
