Ravens Produce 109 Points, Three-Ball Crucial in Non-Conference Win at Cheyney

CHEYNEY, Pa. (January 2, 2019) – Four players scored in double-figures as the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team demolished Cheyney University 109-62 Wednesday evening in the 2019 opener for the Crimson and Grey at Alfred Cope Hall. With the victory, FPU snapped a three-game losing skid and moves to 6-7 while the Wolves suffer their 14th loss of the year.

The Ravens dumped in 50+ points in both halves using their three-point attack to their advantage knocking home a season-best 20 long-range conversions on 45 attempts (44.4%) they held their counterparts to only 23 points in the second stanza. FPU never trailed and showed the willingness to make the extra pass with 28 assists on their 36 field goal connections.

The Ravens 105 points were the most they scored since January 11, 2017 when they produced 105 markers in a 10-point Northeast-10 Conference win versus American International College.

Junior guard Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) tallied a game-high 22 points on 6-of-12 (50%) and 4-of-8 (50%) three-point shooting to go along with a game-best seven boards and a team-leading five rebounds.

Classmate Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) came off the bench and notched 19 markers and a match-best five treys. He also matched Fadojutimi with five dimes. Freshman guard Brandon Kolek (Cumberland, R.I.) chipped in 12 points of his own and grabbed five caroms. All 12 of Kolek's points came in the second half. Senior Gerard Gray Jr. (Washington, D.C.) provided a spark off the bench in his 10 minutes of play tallying nine points and two offensive rebounds.

Cheyney was led by Cliff St. Juste who manufactured a team-high 12 points in 21 minutes off the bench.

FPU started off the contest with eight straight points beginning with a Fadojutimi baseline drive dish to the left corner for a wide-open freshman guard Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) trifecta. Moore connected on his second long-range attempt in as many makes when Fadojutimi kept the possession alive with an offensive board. Fadojutimi concluded the Raven spurt via another second chance opportunity.

Cheyney responded dumping in six consecutive points of their own to close the gap to one possession 8-6, three minutes into the contest. A steal by Derrick Biney and a quick pass to St. Juste brought the margin to one, 11-10. Seck and David Bradbury Jr. (Deep River, Conn.) answered via back-to-back three-pointers to reestablish the Raven two-possession lead 17-12. A Ward Brewster III jumper brought the margin down to three, 21-18 at the 11:04 mark.

A 14-4 Raven run established Pierce's first double-digit lead of the contest, 35-22 when Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) connected with Bradbury Jr. underneath the rack for an easy two following a Jameson Pierrelus (Martin County, Fla.) offensive board. FPU kept attacking as a Fasoyiro deep drain gave the guests a first-half high 18 point lead with 1:42 left before the intermission.

The Ravens opened up the second half on a 19-3 scoring binge to lead by 31, 73-42 with the key play being a Wolves technical foul which resulted in five Fadojutimi markers, two freebies and a corner three ball in the span of a couple of seconds.

Late in the showdown, sophomore guard Sam van Oostrum (Sheffield, England) upped the Raven edge to 42, 96-54 when the sliced through traffic and unloaded a one handed dunk.

The Ravens remain on the road next Tuesday, January 8th when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference duel.
