Fasoyiro Comes Off Bench and Produces Career Effort, Ravens Roll Against Saint Rose

RINDGE, N.H. (December 8, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University men's basketball sophomore guard Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) scored a career-high 22 points in 24 minutes off the bench as the Ravens coasted to a 94-71 victory against the College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon during non-conference action in The Fieldhouse. With the win, the Ravens climb over .500 at 5-4 overall while the Golden Knights slip to 4-5.

Fasoyiro coming off a double-double effort in the win at Merrimack earlier this week tallied 13 of his 22 markers in the first half. He drained 6-of-11 (54.5%) of his shot attempts including 2-of-4 (50%) from beyond the arc and 8-of-9 (88.8%) at the charity stripe. The guard also grabbed seven defensive rebounds and handed out three assists for FPU.

Teammate, junior guard Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) joined Fasoyiro with 20+ points scoring 21 of his own on 4-of-6 (66.7%) downtown shooting. Graduate student Jeremy Arthur (Westbury, N.Y.) added 14 points and team captain Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) chipped in 13 markers and a career-high six steals. Senior guard David Bradbury Jr. (Deep River, Conn.) was productive in limited minutes off the bench scoring eight points.

Three players tacked on 15 markers for Saint Rose as they were led by Adam Anderson who also manufactured seven rebounds and two assists. Saint Rose dominated the Ravens in the low post scoring 52 points in the paint compared to the Ravens 28. However, FPU shot an efficient 45.2% from three-point land taking double the three-point attempts than their counterparts. The Ravens also notched 24 assists on their 31 total field goal conversions.

Saint Rose staked out to an early 5-0 lead following a split at the free throw line by Matt Cerutti. Freshman guard Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) got the Ravens on the board with a step-back jumper at the right elbow with only 2:30 gone by in the first half. The Raven press resulted in two straight turnovers as Fadojutimi racked up his first steal of the afternoon. After the theft, Moore found his teammate sitting on the right wing for an easy trey to deadlock the score 5-5.

FPU's press led to another steal this time sophomore guard Sam van Oostrum (Sheffield, England) came up with the rock and dished off the ball to Fasoyiro to tie the game once again. A Cerutti lay-in coupled with an Anderson three moved the score to 12-9. Fasoyiro countered with a hoop and harm baseline slash to make it a 12-12 ballgame. The Ravens regained a three-point advantage, 15-12 when Bradbury Jr. drilled his first three-ball of the game, the catch and shoot variety in the left corner.

Both teams swapped possessions until the hosts went on a 16-6 spurt using a Moore fast break lay-in and four three-pointers from Fadojutimi, Seck, Arthur and a Fasoyiro second-chance trey to hold their first double-digit lead 33-23. FPU built their first half edge to a high of 17 when Arthur hit a long-range shot as the stanza winded down. The Crimson and Grey headed into the break with a 47-30 lead.

Saint Rose outscored the Ravens 16-8 across the opening five minutes of the second half to cut the deficit to nine 55-46 when Anderson followed his own missed layup and tipped the loose ball into the rack while being fouled. Anderson completed the old-fashioned three-point play. With the Golden Knights momentum building the Ravens need to make a play to cool them off, Fasoyiro and van Oostrum did just that on the next two possessions. Fasoyiro came down the court, curled to the left wing and rifled home a three assisted by freshman guard Brandon Kolek (Woonsocket, R.I.). The Ravens pressed and van Oostrum got his hands on the lazy pass right off the inbounds and reversed a layup up and in to grow the Raven lead to 60-46 at the 14:45 mark.

The guests kept on fighting until Bradbury Jr. threw in a dagger when he knocked down a wing trifecta while being fouled. Bradbury Jr. went to the line, made the freebie and gave his squad their first 20 point lead of the game 74-54 with 9:41 to go. A Shane Herrity three-ball brought the score to 16, 77-61, but the Ravens built their advantage to a high of 24 multiple times over the remainder of the game.

Franklin Pierce has a week off before returning to Northeast-10 Conference play. FPU travels to Southern New Hampshire University next Saturday, December 15th for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
