Balanced Offense Helps Golden Knights Surge Past Ravens

ALBANY, N.Y. (January 14, 2017) – The College of Saint Rose snapped Franklin Pierce University's four game winning streak with a 87-67 victory on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action played at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The win moved Saint Rose to 15-4 overall and 7-3 in league play while the Ravens fall to 10-6 and 7-3 NE10.

Jordan Lackey (South Plainfield, N.J.) tallied a game-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 3-of-4 from deep. Lackey also racked up three rebounds, two blocks and handed out one assist. Teammate Asante Sandiford (Boston, Mass.) added 14 points, three boards and Donte Gittens (Hartford, Mass.) chipped in 11 markers.

Four of five starters scored in double figures for the hosts. Leading the Golden Knights offensive attack was Mical-Ryan Boyd who scored 19 points. Chris Dorgier poured in 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Julian Lipinski racked up 12 points, nine boards and handed out five helpers. Damon Coleman scored 13 points in 19 minutes.

The Ravens were outrebounded (39-to-24), and allowed more points in the paint (32-for-26) than the Golden Knights while Saint Rose also turned the rock over less (16-to-11).

FPU held a 6-3 lead over the first two minutes of the contest with layups coming from Gittens, Mike McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) and Lackey. Lackey continued his scorching hot start by accounting for the Ravens next seven points when he made a dunk, two freebies and a three point field goal to push FPU ahead 13-12.

Holding a two point, 17-15 lead with 13:13 left before the half, Saint Rose embarked on a 12-4 run to take a 10, point 29-19 lead thanks to back-to-back treys by Jack Jones. Lackey went back to work tallying eight straight points for the Ravens to make it 34-27 until junior guard Dustin Cole (Standish, Maine) buried a three from deep to cut the deficit to four, 34-30 with 4:11 remaining.

Saint Rose ended the half using an 11-5 scoring binge that put them up 47-36 at the contests midway point.

Lackey scored 19 of his 21 points in the first half of play as he went 6-of-8 from the hardwood and 3-of-4 from downtown.

The Golden Knights lead never dropped below 10 during the first eight minutes of play in the second half. Following a Gittens slam, a 10-0 run by Saint Rose put them ahead by 21, 68-47 with nine minutes to play. They eventually built their lead to 25 until the Ravens cut it down to 20 before the games conclusion.

The Ravens return to Rindge on Wednesday for an NE10 duel with New Haven at 7:30 p.m.
