Rough shooting send Men’s Basketball home empty, lose to Saint Michaels 76-64

COLCHESTER, Vt. (January 4, 2015) – Junior Tyler Iacuone (Mahopac, N.Y.) went 5-12 shooting in route to a team-high 13 points, but it wasn't enough to outweigh a tough rebounding night as the Franklin Pierce University Ravens dropped their second straight game Wednesday night in a loss to the Saint Michael's Purple Knights by a final score of 76-64.

With the win, Saint Michael's improve to 14-6 (10-5 Northeast-10) while Franklin Pierce drops to 12-9 (7-7 Northeast-10). The Ravens now split the two regular season games against the Purple Knights, with the first one being a win at the Fieldhouse back on January 7.

The Ravens were out-rebounded by over double the rebounds (54 to 25), and were almost outrebounded totally as the Purple Knights as they were able to grab 23 offensive rebounds leading to outscoring the Ravens 19-2 on second chance opportunities.

The first half saw much of the action, as both teams were able to swap the lead at different times throughout the half. The Purple Knights entered halftime only up by two points. That changed as the second half started, as Saint Michael's jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first four minutes of the half. The lead reached a 14 point lead only a few minutes later, which would end up as the largest margin of the game. The Ravens would make a comeback, and come within three points with nine minutes to go, only to see that disappear once more in the final minutes.

Behind Iacuone both seniors Paul Becklens (Boston, Mass.) and Ryen Vilmont (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with 12 points apiece. Becklens also showed off his giving ways by tossing around seven assists and grabbed a team high five rebounds along with freshman Lolami Lola-Charles (Edgewood, Md.). Senior Aboubacar Casse (Dakar, Senegal) hit three three-pointers for nine points as well.

For Saint Micheal's, they saw two players finish with double-doubles, as Mike Thompson and James Cambronne stepped up with big games. Thompson took the game ball as he finished with a game-high 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Cambronne finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Both Corey Crawford and Matt Bonds finished with 13 points and nine rebounds apiece. Dom Ditlefsen also chipped in with team-highs with four assists and five steals.

The Ravens will take to the floor again as they travel to Worcester, Mass. this Saturday, February 7 as they take on the Assumption College Greyhounds. Tip-Off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
