Men's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight with Convincing 74-54 Victory at Saint Michael's

Ravens' defensive efforts the past two games have resulted in them holding the opposition to under 20 field goals made

Andre Blackwood knocked down a big triple during an early run which helped propel the Ravens to a 74-54 win at St. Mike's on Sunday.
COLCHESTER, Vt. (November 27, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's basketball picked up its fourth-straight win on Sunday afternoon with a convincing 74-54 triumph at Saint Michael's at the Ross Sports Center in Colchester, Vt. The Ravens improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights fell to 2-4 and 2-1 in league play.
Four Ravens scored in double-figures, including junior guard Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford, Conn.), who pumped in a team-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including an impressive 5-of-7 effort from behind the arc. Jean-Guillaume has scored in double-figures in all seven games this season, including topping the 20-point mark twice.
Sophomores Ellis Cooper (Northampton, Mass.) and Curtis Christian (Harlem, N.Y.) tossed in 15 points apiece, while senior forward Adedamola Abu (Mattapan, Mass.) netted 12 points with five rebounds and three assists.
Mike Holton Jr. pumped in 19 points to pace Saint Michael's offensive attack.
Franklin Pierce had a strong game offensively as the Ravens shot 53 percent (27-of-51) from the field and turned the ball over only 11 times. They were just as strong defensively, limiting the Purple Knights to just 34 percent shooting (17-of-50), while swiping 10 steals. It marked the second-straight game Franklin Pierce held the opposition to under 20 baskets made as the Ravens limited Stonehill to just 17 successful field goals in a 57-47 win on Tuesday night.
Jean-Guillaume kick-started Franklin Pierce's offensive onslaught with a pair of three-pointers in the opening minutes of the game to give the Ravens a 9-3 advantage early.
Saint Michael's pulled to within 14-13 with 13:32 to go in the first half on a three-pointer from Dom Ditlefsen, but Franklin Pierce countered by scoring the next 13 points over an eight-minute span to open up a 27-13 advantage. Cooper sparked the run with five-straight points on a jumper and three-pointer, while classmate Andre Blackwood (Paterson, N.J.) knocked down a trey of his own moments later. Freshman forward Ryen Vilmont (Philadelphia, Pa.) added three points during the rally and Abu capped it with a layup.
Jean-Guillaume drained another three in the final minute of the half to send Franklin Pierce into the locker room with a 32-25 lead.
Saint Michael's didn't fold and pulled to within three at 32-29 early in the second half following a layup from Tyler Schilling.
However, Franklin Pierce went to work and began to build on its lead, eventually taking a double-digit advantage at 44-33 with 14:03 left in the game following a pair of free throws from Cooper. Then, Christian got into the scoring act for Franklin Pierce and added to his team's lead with back-to-back triples moments later. He then dropped in a jumper with 8:17 remaining to give Franklin Pierce a 60-45 lead as the Ravens would cruise in from there to earn the 20-point victory.
Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday when the Ravens travel to Manchester to face Southern New Hampshire at 7:30 p.m.
