Men's Basketball's Second Half Rally Not Enough in Tough 87-79 Setback at Saint Anselm
Adedamola Abu pulls down game-high 11 rebounds
MANCHESTER, N.H. (November 28, 2010) -- The Franklin
Pierce University men's basketballteam put on a furious second-half
rally on Sunday, but the Ravens came up just short in a tough 87-79
setback to Saint Anselm at Stoutenburgh Gym in Manchester, N.H. The
Ravens fell to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Northeast-10, while the
Hawks improved to 4-1 and 2-1 in league play.
Senior guard Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.) paced
Franklin Pierce's offensive attack with a season-high 27 points,
thus marking the third time this season he topped 20 points in a
game. Sophomore guard Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford,
Conn.) chipped in 19 points, while junior forward
Adedamola Abu (Mattapan, Mass.) pulled down 11
rebounds.
Four Hawks scored in double-figures, including Allen Harris and
Pat Luptowski with 23 and 22 points, respectively. Jack Keough
added 17 points, while Thomas Baudinet chipped in 15. Harris and
Keough each collected 10 rebounds to log double-doubles on the
afternoon.
Saint Anselm led by as many as 20 points in the first half and
held a 47-34 lead at halftime. The Hawks continued to keep a
double-digit distance between themselves and Franklin Pierce
throughout the early stages of the second half.
However, the Ravens began to mount a rally midway through the
second half, which would see them pull to within two points on
multiple occasions. Franklin Pierce used an 18-3 run over a
five-minute span, aided by 11 points from Dozier and capped with a
layup from Jean-Guillaume, to pull within two at 75-73 with 4:12 to
go.
The teams traded baskets over the next 90 seconds and Dozier,
again, came up big with a driving layup to bring the Ravens to
within 77-75 with 2:41 remaining.
But every time Franklin Pierce appeared to be on the verge of
knocking down the go-ahead shot, Saint Anselm would answer on the
offensive end as it scored eight of the game's next 10 points to
take an 85-77 lead with just :51 left. That mini-surge ultimately
put the game out of reach as Saint Anselm went on to earn the
win.
The Ravens return to action Wednesday night when they play host to
Merrimack at 7:30 p.m. in The Fieldhouse.
