LOWELL, Mass. (February 23, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce
University men's basketball team closed out its season with a 79-63
setback at UMass-Lowell on Wednesday night at the Costello Athletic
Center in Lowell, Mass. The Ravens concluded the season with a 6-21
overall record and a 4-18 mark in the Northeast-10, while the River
Hawks improved to 18-8 and 14-8 in league play.
Senior guard Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.) tossed
in 20 points in his final collegiate game, and in the process,
moved into the top-10 in Franklin Pierce men's basketball history
for career scoring with 1,452 points.
Freshman center Adrianos Vourliotakis Perdikaris
(Cholargos, Athens) scored in double-figures for the
second-straight game as he had 12 points, while also grabbing seven
rebounds.
Three River Hawks scored in double-figures, including Antonio
Bivens (23 points), Matt Welch (20 points) and Akeem Williams (18
points).
Franklin Pierce hung tough with the River Hawks in the opening
minutes of the game and found itself tied at 6-6 with 13:37
remaining in the first half following a jumper from junior guard
Dayshawn Long (New York, N.Y.).
However, UMass-Lowell went to work and out-scored the Ravens 16-3
over the next three-and-a-half minutes to open up a commanding 22-9
lead. Williams sparked the surge with a three-pointer. The River
Hawks continued to keep a comfortable cushion between themselves
and Franklin Pierce, and eventually took a 41-29 lead into the
locker room at halftime.
One highlight of the half for the Ravens was a three-pointer that
Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford, Conn.) bombed in at
the buzzer from well behind the three-point arc. Dozier led the
Ravens with seven points in the first half, while also handing out
two assists.
UMass-Lowell never let its lead slip below double-digits in the
second half as it cruised on for victory. The River Hawks shot 46
percent from the field for the game (31-of-67), while limiting the
Ravens to just 31 percent shooting (18-of-58).
