RINDGE, N.H. (December 18, 2009) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s basketball team dropped a 78-55 decision to 23rd-ranked Bentley on Friday evening at The Fieldhouse in Rindge. The Ravens fell to 4-6 overall and 0-6 in the Northeast-10, while Bentley improved to 6-2 and 4-2 in league play.

Freshman guard Curtis Christian (Harlem, N.Y.) came off the bench to toss in a team-high 11 points for Franklin Pierce, including going a strong 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Junior guard Jeff Manchester (Gorham, Maine) was the team’s other double-figure scorer with 10 points.

Classmate Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.) came off the bench to chip in nine points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist. Senior forward Terrell Ray (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore frontcourt-mate Adedamola Abu (Mattapan, Mass.) each ripped down a team-best seven rebounds for Franklin Pierce.

Bentley’s Jason Westrol led all scorers with 26 points, while Brian Tracey notched a double-double with 19 points and 18 boards. The Falcons held a strong 34-14 advantage in points in the paint.

The Falcons opened the game on an 8-0 run and held the Ravens scoreless for the first seven minutes. Manchester broke the scoring drought with a jumper and Franklin Pierce tried to work its way back into the contest.

The Ravens pulled within 12 on two occasions in the latter stages of the half, but could not get any closer as Bentley built a 43-26 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

Tracey had already logged his double-double in the opening 20 minutes with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Westrol had 12 of his points in the stanza. Christian had eight points for the Ravens and pulled down a rebound.

Bentley continued to build on its lead in the second half and led by as many as 26, as the Falcons pulled away for the victory.

Franklin Pierce takes a short break for the holidays and will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 2, when it travels to Manchester, N.H. to face Southern New Hampshire at 3:30 p.m.
