Men's Basketball Falls to Saint Anselm 71-66
Four Ravens score in double-figures, including 23 from Jean-Guillaume
BOXSCORE
RINDGE, N.H. (November 29, 2009) – Four
Franklin Pierce University men’s basketball players scored in
double-figures on Sunday night, but it wasn’t enough as the
Ravens dropped a close 71-66 decision to Saint Anselm at The
Fieldhouse in Rindge. Franklin Pierce fell to 4-2 overall and 0-2
in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1
in the league.
Freshman guard Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford,
Conn.) led the way with 23 points while grabbing seven
rebounds and handing out seven assists.
A pair of Ravens logged double-doubles in the contest, including
junior guard Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.) with 13
points and 16 rebounds, and senior forward Terrell Ray
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 11 points and 10 rebounds. It was
Ray’s fourth double-double in six games this season. Dozier
also had three assists and three steals to go along with his
double-double.
Freshman guard Ryan Creighton (Greenport, N.Y.)
was the Ravens other double-figure scorer as he dropped in 10
points.
Greg Vetrano and Thomas Baudinet each tossed in 16 points to lead
the Hawks to the win.
The Ravens trailed 22-13 with 7:46 remaining in the first half, but
began to slowly chip away at the lead over the remaining stages of
the period.
Franklin Pierce scored 15 of the game’s next 21 points over a
five-minute span to knot the game at 28-28. Dozier sparked it with
a break-away dunk and Jean-Guillaume capped it with a
three-pointer.
However, Saint Anselm responded by scoring the final six points of
the half to take a 34-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Dozier had 11 of his team’s 24 rebounds in the opening 20
minutes, while Jean-Guillaume tossed in 11 points to lead the way
offensively for the Ravens.
The second half was just as closely contested as the first.
Saint Anselm led by as many as eight points on three different
occasions in the second half, but could not seem to pull away from
the Ravens.
Creighton knocked down a triple from the left corner with 3:39
remaining to cap a 6-0 run by Franklin Pierce and tie the game at
62.
But just as they did late in the first half, the Hawks weathered
the storm and scored the next seven points to open up a 69-62 lead
with 1:52 left.
Franklin Pierce could not get much closer the rest of the way as
the 7-0 Saint Anselm run proved to the difference in them earning
the win.
Franklin Pierce returns to action on Wednesday night when it
travels to face Merrimack at 7:30 p.m. For more information on
