Kinard Dozier Lays In Basketball With :01 Remaining to Lift Men's Basketball to Thrilling 72-70 Win at #10 Bentley

Dozier makes game-winning shot with one tick left on clock to down nationally-ranked Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. (February 20, 2010) -- Junior guard Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.) laid in a basket with :01 remaining in the game to lift the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team to a thrilling 72-70 win at No. 10 nationally-ranked Bentley University on Saturday afternoon. The Ravens improved to 12-14 overall and 7-14 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Bentley fell to 22-4 overall and 17-4 in league play. It marked the second-straight year the Ravens defeated a nationally-ranked opponent on the road.

The win capped an unbelievable afternoon for Franklin Pierce basketball as both the men's and women's teams swept Bentley at the Dana Center in Waltham, Mass. The win also came in front of approximately 400 Franklin Pierce fans that made the trip to cheer on their team.

The Ravens held a 69-65 lead with a little under two minutes remaining, but Bentley was able to score five of the next six points to knot the game at 70 with only :27 to go.

The Ravens immediately brought the ball up court and got it in the hands of Dozier. He dribbled at the top of the key initially, then drove down the lane, and finally threw up a shot that banked off the backboard and dropped into the bottom of the net.

Dozier had a team-high 27 points in the game, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Two other Ravens scored in double-figures, including Terrell Ray (15 points) and Eric Jean-Guillaume (12 points).

Jason Westrol scored a game-high 30 points for the Falcons in the the setback.

Bentley opened the game on a 10-0 run, but the Ravens would battle back over the remaining stages of the first half.

Brian Tracey's dunk put the Falcons on top, 31-20, with only a few minutes remaining in the period. However, Franklin Pierce scored the final nine points of the half to pull within 31-29 heading into the locker room at halftime. Adedamola Abu (Mattapan, Mass.) laid in a basket to aid the run and Jean-Guillaume capped it with a trey.

Dozier, who had two points during the final surge, had a team-high 10 points during the first half. Jean-Guillaume added five points.

The Ravens continued their surge in the opening minutes of the second half as they went on a 12-2 run to grab a 41-33 advantage. Ray made back-to-back layups, Jeff Manchester (Gorham, Maine) and Jean-Guillaume each dropped in triples to aid the run.

Franklin Pierce kept its lead between 6-to-9 points for most of the half and held a 61-55 lead with 5:00 to play in the game.

Ray scored five-straight points for the Ravens to give them a 66-57 lead with 3:33 to go. However, the Falcons regrouped and scored the game's next seven point to pull within 66-64 with 2:36 to go.

Dozier hit a driving layup while being fouled and converted the free throw to give the Ravens a 69-64 lead.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday night when it closes out the 2009-10 regular season versus UMass-Lowell in The Fieldhouse in Rindge. The game will also be Senior Night as Franklin Pierce will honor its senior class of Marcus Wellman and Terrell Ray.
