BOXSCORE
RINDGE, N.H. (January 9, 2010) – The
Franklin Pierce University men’s basketball team had its
two-game winning streak halted on Saturday night with a tough 82-73
loss at the hands of Saint Rose in The Fieldhouse in Rindge. The
Ravens (6-7, 2-7 Northeast-10) failed in their bid to move a game
above .500, while Saint Rose improved to 9-5 and 6-3 in league
play.
Five Ravens scored in double-figures, including junior guard
Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.), who had a
double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. It marked the
second-straight season Dozier recorded a double-double versus the
Golden Knights as he turned in 23 points and 10 boards in last
season’s contest.
Senior forward Terrell Ray (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 14
points and nine rebounds, guards Jeff Manchester (Gorham,
Maine) and Curtis Christian (Harlem,
N.Y.) each chipped in 11 points, and freshman
backcourt-mate Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford,
Conn.) pumped in 10.
Saint Rose also had five players score in double-figures, including
Shea Bromirski’s game-high 22 points.
The Golden Knights shot a strong 48 percent (28-of-59) from the
field, while Franklin Pierce struggled at 35 percent
(25-of-71).
Saint Rose went right to work on the offensive end and scored the
game’s first seven points a little more than two minutes in.
The Golden Knights continued to add to their lead and went up 17-5
with 14:26 left in the half on a three-pointer from Jermaine
Clark.
The Ravens tried to fight back and did pull within 23-19 at the
7:45 mark on a trey from Manchester.
Andre Pope scored six-consecutive points for Saint Rose to push its
lead back out to double-digits at 29-19. The Golden Knights
continued to build on their lead throughout the remaining stages of
the first half and took a 43-28 lead into the locker room at
halftime.
Saint Rose continued to keep its lead in double-digits throughout
most of the second half and used another three from Pope with a
little more than eight minutes remaining to grab a commanding 65-47
advantage.
Franklin Pierce rallied to score the next seven points to pull
within 11 at 65-54. Christian sparked the surge with a three from
the top of the key.
Saint Rose responded and knocked down several crucial baskets over
the next several minutes. The Ravens did trim the deficit to as
little as seven late, but it was too late as the Golden Knights
earned the win.
Franklin Pierce returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to
face New Haven at 7:30 p.m. For more information on Franklin Pierce
