Hunt, Minifield Honored by NE-10

Hunt named Conference Player of the Week Minifield earns second-straight Freshman of the Week award

RINDGE, N.H. (January 26, 2004) - Two members of the Franklin Pierce men's basketball team were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference today for their efforts last week.

Senior preseason All-American Jimmie Hunt (Utica, N.Y./Mount Ararat (Maine)) was selected as the Northeast-10 men's basketball Player of the Week, while point guard Darryl Minifield (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) earned his second-straight Freshman of the Week award.

Hunt picked up his first award of the season and the second of his career as he averaged 24 points, 6.3 rebounds and three assists in three games for the Ravens last week. He hit 48.7-percent (19-39) of his shots from the field, including 47.4% (9-19) from three-point range, and was a perfect 25-25 from the free-throw line for the week.

Hunt led Franklin Pierce to a 92-78 upset of No. 16 UMass Lowell to finish off a regular season sweep of the River Hawks on Saturday with a season-high 34 points to go with ten rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season (sixth career). He hit 11-15 shots from the field, including 6-8 from long-range, and was 6-6 at the line in the victory, while also dishing out three assists.

Hunt opened the week on Monday with a team-best 20 points, five rebounds and three assists at Assumption and totaled 18 points, aided by a season-best 12-12 effort at the line, four rebounds and three assists against American International College.

Hunt, who has led the Ravens in scoring five-straight games, is averaging a team-best 17.4 points (6th NE-10), 6.1 rebounds (14th) and 2.4 assists per game this season. He is shooting 42.3% (91-215) from the field, including 43.6% (84-98) from three-point range (7th), and 85.7% (84-98) from the free-throw line (2nd).

Hunt ranks 14th in program history with 1,317 career points, while his 418 career rebounds are good for 20th all-time. He holds program records for free throws made in a game (17) and single-game free-throw percentage (17-17).

Minifield picks up his second-straight Freshman of the Week award and the sixth of the season (third-straight) by a Franklin Pierce freshman. Minifield averaged 7.7 points, six rebounds, two assists and 2.3 steals in three games for the Ravens last week. He opened the week with six points, five rebounds, two assists a block and a steal at Assumption on Monday. Minifield totaled a team-best five rebounds to go with ten points and four steals against American International, then rounded out the week with seven points, eight boards, three assists and two steals in the Ravens upset of UMass Lowell.

Minifield is averaging 6.1 points, 5.2 rebounds (6.1 in NE-10 games), 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in his first collegiate season. The 5-foot, 11-inch, point guard has led the Ravens in rebounding six times this season and is averaging 8.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game since joining the starting rotation 11 games ago. He leads the team in rebounding, assists and steals over that stretch, while shooting a team-best 49.3% (33-67) from the field as well.
