Hunt Voted to Daktronics All-Northeast Second Team
Utica, N.Y., native selected by region SIDs for second-straight season
RINDGE, N.H. (March 10, 2004) -Senior guard Jimmie Hunt (Utica, N.Y./Mount Ararat (Maine)) was selected to the Daktronics NCAA Division II men's basketball All-Northeast Region second team for the second-straight year by sports information directors throughout the region. The announcement was made today in advance of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Tournament in Lowell, Mass., this weekend.
Hunt, one of five repeat honorees to the two All-Region teams, is also a two-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection and was also named to the All-Northeast Region team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as a junior. Prior to his senior season, Street & Smith's magazine tabbed him as a preseason All-American.
Hunt led the Ravens this winter with 17.6 points (7th NE-10), 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 33.5 minutes per contest while starting all 28 games. Hunt surpassed his own single-season record at the College as he drained 85.8-percent (127-148) of his free-throw attempts (5th NE-10). The swingman also hit 43.5% (148-340) of his attempts from the field, including 41.8% (69-165) from three-point range.
Hunt led Franklin Pierce in scoring 16 times this year, including 13 of its final 15 contests, and rebounding 14 times, including the final five games. He totaled a team-best four double-doubles, including 27 points and a career-best 11 rebounds in a win over Teikyo Post University on November 23.
Hunt also earned Northeast-10 Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career on January 26 after he averaged 24 points, 6.3 rebounds and three assists in three games for the Ravens the week before. He totaled a season-best 34 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 6-8 from three-point range, and canned all six free-throw attempts to go with ten rebounds and five assists in the Ravens 92-78 win over then No. 16 UMass Lowell.
Hunt closed out his four-year career ranked ninth in program history with 1,495 career points and 17th with 479 career rebounds. His .812 (312-384) career free throw percentage surpassed the previous program mark of .797 set by Jason Miglionico from 1990-93. Hunt also holds program records for single-game free throws made (17 vs. Bryant, 2/15/03) and free-throw percentage (17-17 vs. Bryant, 2/15/03).
Franklin Pierce completed its season with a record of 14-14 overall, 10-12 in the Northeast-10 Conference, The Ravens made their 27th consecutive postseason appearance with the tenth seed in the NE-10 Tournament before being eliminated by seventh-seeded College of Saint Rose in the first round.
