Field Hockey has Four Bring Home NE10 Honors

Northeast-10 field hockey All-Conference awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. (November 6, 2019) – For just the fourth time in program, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has had three players collect All-Northeast-10 Conference honors in the same season. It was part of an NE10 postseason awards docket which saw four Ravens honored overall, as announced on Wednesday afternoon by the league office. Sophomore back Julianne Sacco (Southborough, Mass.), senior back Jessica Strassburg (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore forward Feline van Doorn (Barendrecht, Netherlands) were all selected to the All-NE10 Third Team, while freshman Meghan Winn (Newburyport, Mass.) landed on the NE10 All-Rookie Team.

The haul of three All-Conference selections matches both the 2011 team and the 2010 squad. The only team in program history with more All-NE10 nods was the 2000 edition, which boasted four All-Conference honorees.

Sacco led the team with both 14 points and seven goals on the season, while starting all 19 games. The seven goals is currently good enough to tie for 20th in the NE10. Sacco attempted 28 shots along the way, including 18 shots on goal. She tallied one game-winning goal and recorded a pair of defensive saves.

Strassburg spent her senior season establishing herself as one of the premier backs in the country while starting all 19 games and playing a pivotal role on the team’s defensive corner unit. Her 11 defensive saves lead the nation and, obviously, the NE10 as well. Strassburg wraps up her career having established new program records for defensive saves in a season (11) and career (18).

For van Doorn, her sophomore season made it back-to-back double-digit point campaigns to start her career. She finished with 13 points on five goals and three assists. She attempted a team-best 48 shots, including 24 on goal, and tallied one game-winning goal.

Winn was the team’s top freshman point-getter in 2019, and the only rookie on the squad to start all 19 games. She finished with eight points on three goals and two assists, including one game-winning goal. Winn attempted 25 shots, including 16 on goal, and recorded one defensive save.

Franklin Pierce (8-11) finished eighth in the NE10 and earned the program’s first postseason berth since 2011.
