Field Hockey Stifled by No. 4 Saint Anselm, 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. (October 29, 2019) – Offense was tough to come by on Tuesday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in the squad's home finale. No. 4 nationally ranked Saint Anselm was dominant throughout at Sodexo Field, as the Hawks ran up advantages of 27-1 in shot attempts and 15-0 in shots on goal on the way to a 3-0 win in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 8-9 (7-6 NE10), while Saint Anselm improves to 15-2 (12-1 NE10).

Saint Anselm struck in the final five minutes of the first quarter to take a lead it would never relinquish. Senior midfielder Mary Nee had the finish on the first of her two goals of the afternoon in the 12^th minute, as she salted away a rebound from five yards in front of the right post.

The Hawks' second goal was a rebound score as well, and came in the 26^th minute, off of a penalty corner. Senior back Anna Drakeley hit the right post with her shot, which rebounded into the goalmouth. Sophomore midfielder Andrea McNeil was on the scene and brushed the loose ball into the cage for her second goal of the season.

Nee rounded out the scoring 2:28 into the fourth quarter, in the 48^th minute, to create the 3-0 final with her fifth goal of the campaign. The assist came from senior back Kaeleigh Lord on the left side, who fed the ball to Nee at the top of the circle. Nee took a step to her right to open the shooting lane and then put her shot through traffic and into the back of the cage. Her second goal of the game marked her first career multi-goal performance.

Junior goalkeeper Olivia Barnes (Greenwich, N.Y.) piled up 10 saves against 13 shots on goal in front of the Franklin Pierce net, but suffered the loss (7-9) anyway. Senior midfielder Allison Collins (Sandown, N.H.) and sophomore back Julianne Sacco (Southborough, Mass.) added defensive saves along the way for the Ravens.

At the other end of the field, Saint Anselm junior goalkeeper Julia Hand (14-2) was not forced to make a save while chalking up her ninth shutout of the season.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire to wrap up the regular season with an NE10 contest. Game time is set for noon at Penmen Stadium in Manchester, N.H.
