MANSFIELD, Mass. (October 22, 2019) – Senior back Jessica Strassburg (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman forward Christine Jarowicz (Kennebunk, Maine) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team have both collected Northeast-10 Conference awards for the week ending on Oct. 20, as announced on Tuesday by the league office. Strassburg was selected as Defensive Player of the Week, while Jarowicz chalked up Rookie of the Week accolades.

A senior co-captain, Strassburg led a defensive unit which did not allow a goal in a 2-0 week for the Ravens, who picked up 1-0 victories over American International and Southern Connecticut State. In Tuesday afternoon’s game against AIC, Strassburg had a second-quarter defensive save which helped preserve the shutout. It also marked the 15th defensive save of her career, establishing a new program record.

On the season, Strassburg has started all 14 games on the back line for the Ravens. She has recorded a career-best eight defensive saves, which has tied the program’s single-season record in that department.

For her part, Jarowicz factored in on both of Franklin Pierce’s goals on the week. On Tuesday, she put home the overtime winner in the win over AIC. On Friday, she did the heavy lifting and beat multiple defenders before setting up a goal by Madison Gagnon.

On the season, Jarowicz has played in all 14 games, including two starts. She has tallied four points on one goal and two assists.

The Ravens return to the field later on Tuesday, when they travel to Saint Michael’s for an NE10 contest. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Duffy Field in Colchester, Vt.
