Field Hockey Shutout at No. 3 Merrimack, 3-0

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 26, 2018) – Senior back Delaney Yule scored a pair of goals on Friday afternoon to lead No. 3 nationally ranked Merrimack to a 3-0 win over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Merrimack Stadium. Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Barnes (Greenwich, N.Y.) made seven saves in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-8 (3-6 NE10), while Merrimack improves to 13-1 (9-0 NE10). The Ravens are now without a goal in the last 196:37, dating to a first-half goal at LIU Post on Oct. 19.

Yule posted the only goal Merrimack would need on Friday in the 12th minute. Off a corner play, she took a pass from senior midfielder Mary McNeil and popped home her fourth goal of the season from the right side of the circle.

Yule completed her double just 2:58 on the other side of halftime, in the 38th minute. Her fifth of the campaign came off of a penalty corner as well, once again off an assist from McNeil.

Merrimack capped the scoring in the 47th minute to create the 3-0 final. Junior back Miranda Judd was awarded a penalty stroke and slotted it away for her sixth goal of the year.

Barnes (6-8) made seven saves against 10 shots on goal in the losing effort in front of the Franklin Pierce goal. Senior back Alicia Lasnik (Glenmont, N.Y.) added a defensive save along the way as well.

At the other end of the field, Merrimack freshman goalkeeper Riley Brown (2-0) stopped the only shot on her goal to pick up the win and post her second shutout of the season.

Merrimack posted advantages of 18-5 in shot attempts, 11-1 in shots on goal and 11-4 in penalty corners on the afternoon.

The Ravens return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 31, when they travel to American International for an NE10 contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Abdow Field in Springfield, Massachusetts.
