Football Secures Historic Season Finale Win in Double Overtime Thriller 

 

WORCESTER, Mass. (11/16/24) - The Franklin Pierce football team capped off its most successful season in program history with a dramatic 21-19 double-overtime victory against Assumption on Saturday. The win marked a program-record total for victories in a single season, showcasing the Ravens' growth and resilience.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The game began with a strong start for Franklin Pierce, as quarterback Adrian Parker (Manchester, Conn.) rushed 17 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, capping a 10-play, 74-yard drive to give the Ravens a 6-0 lead.  

  • Assumption responded in the third quarter with a 3-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Jay Kastaintin, followed by a 20-yard field goal by Massimo Sgambati in the fourth, pushing the Greyhounds ahead 10-6 with just over eight minutes remaining.  

  • With time running out, Parker connected with Kameron Massey for a 12-yard touchdown pass to reclaim the lead at 13-10 with only 29 seconds left. Assumption then forced overtime when Sgambati nailed a 50-yard field goal as regulation expired.  

  • After a scoreless first overtime, Parker delivered a stunning 21-yard touchdown pass to Joaziah Gonzalez (Meridan, Conn.), and a successful two-point conversion extended the Ravens' lead to 21-13. Assumption managed a touchdown in their possession but fauled the two-point conversion, sealing Franklin Pierce's hard-fought victory.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • Adrian Parker dominated with 327 passing yards, two touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown.  

  • Joziah Gonzalez recorded nine receptions for 100 yards and a game-winning touchdown.  

  • Trey Sejour (Evertt, Mass.) led with nine tackles and 3.5 sacks for 32 yards.
