GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 14, 2020) – Senior right-hander Derek Duffy (Farmington, Conn.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team, as announced on Thursday by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). As a result of the selection, Duffy will also advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

For the spring 2020 season, criteria was altered to allow student-athletes to be nominated based on their career body of work, rather than just the 2020 campaign. This temporary change was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is the first career Academic All-District honor for Duffy.

As a junior a year ago, Duffy was an All-East Region Second Team selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association, in addition to earning All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team honors. Previously, he was an NE10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman in 2017. Duffy has made 34 appearances on the mound for the Ravens in his career, including 15 starts. Over 118.1 innings, he has recorded 114 strikeouts, against just 15 walks, while posting a 3.04 ERA and an 11-5 record. Duffy plans to return to Franklin Pierce next year for the 2021 season.

Academic All-America teams are slated to be announced on Wednesday, June 10.
