ABCA All-Region Teams

RINDGE, N.H. (May 31, 2019) – Senior left fielder Brad Roberto (San Diego, Calif.) and junior right-hander Derek Duffy (Farmington, Conn.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team have been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region Second Team, as announced earlier this week. The ABCA All-Region teams are selected by baseball coaches within each of Division II’s eight regions.

For Roberto, it marked his third All-Region selection of the spring, as he also landed on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region Second Teams earlier this month. As a result, he is now a consensus All-East Region Second Team selection, having earned the honor from all three groups which award it. Roberto was also an All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team selection.

For Duffy, it marked his first career All-Region selection. He was an All-NE10 Second Team selection earlier this spring.

Roberto played in all 53 games in the outfield for the Ravens, largely in left field, and split time between the leadoff spot and the three-hole. He hit .342/.466/.492 over 199 at-bats (68-for-199), with an on-base percentage which ranked third in the NE10, a batting average which ranked eighth, and a slugging percentage which tied for 12th. Roberto also led the NE10 in walks (47) and hits (68), tied for third in triples (4), and ranked fourth in runs scored (46). He has 10 doubles and four home runs on the season, and has driven in 33 runs. The 47 walks came against just 24 strikeouts. Roberto is currently ranked ninth in the nation in walks and 22nd in walks per game (0.89).

For his part, Duffy made 10 appearances on the mound, including nine starts, and was seventh in the NE10 in strikeouts per nine innings (9.67). Over 62.1 innings, he allowed 18 runs (11 earned) on 53 hits, walked just five and struck out 67, on his way to a 1.59 ERA and a 6-2 record with one save. The ERA ranked third in the NE10. Duffy currently leads the nation in both walks allowed per nine innings (0.72) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (13.4).

The Ravens (29-24) captured their league-record sixth NE10 title this spring, and qualified for the NCAA Championship for the 15th time in program history.
