Baseball’s Zach Hart Selected by Cleveland Indians on Second Day of MLB Draft

SECAUCUS, N.J. (June 4, 2019) -- Senior right-hander Zach Hart (Wallingford, Conn.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team was selected on Tuesday evening by the Cleveland Indians in the 10th round (310 overall) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Hart will most likely report to the Indians’ Class-A, short-season, New York-Penn League affiliate, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

Baseball’s Roberto, Duffy Named to ABCA All-East Region Second Team

(May 31, 2019) – Senior left fielder Brad Roberto (San Diego, Calif.) and junior right-hander Derek Duffy (Farmington, Conn.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team have been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region Second Team, as announced earlier this week. The ABCA All-Region teams are selected by baseball coaches within each of Division II’s eight regions.

(May 23, 2019) – Senior left fielder Brad Roberto (San Diego, Calif.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-East Region Second Team, as announced on Thursday. The NCBWA All-Region teams are selected by media members and sports information directors within each of Division II’s eight regions.

(May 17, 2019) – Six runs through the first five innings allowed fifth-seeded NYIT to build up a 6-0 lead in a winner’s bracket game on Friday morning, at the second day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Adelphi University. Meanwhile, the eighth-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team left the bases loaded in each of the first two innings and could never cut the gap to fewer than three runs in a 9-3 loss to the Bears at William J. Bonomo Field.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (May 17, 2019) – It was a combined 22 runs on 31 hits, in what was anything but a pitcher’s duel on Friday afternoon, in an elimination game on the second day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Adelphi. The eighth-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team kept battling back from an initial 6-0 deficit after four innings, but could never completely close the gap. Fourth-seeded Wilmington (Del.) ultimately prevailed in the back-and-forth affair, with a 12-10 victory at William J. Bonomo Field.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (May 16, 2019) – Things got dicey in the last of the ninth on Thursday afternoon, but the eighth-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team was able to hang on for a 4-3 win over top seed, host and No. 5/15 nationally ranked Adelphi on the first day of the NCAA Championship East Regional. Senior right-hander Evan Glew (North Andover, Mass.) allowed two runs in the ninth, but ultimately got sophomore catcher Jack Ryan to fly out deep down the right-field line to strand the tying run at third base at Bonomo Field.

(May 15, 2019) – Following a dramatic run to the Northeast-10 Conference title last week, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team is set to open its 15th all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship on Thursday. The Ravens’ road to their eighth NCAA Regional title begins against sub-regional host Adelphi, on the front end of a four-team, three-day, double-elimination tournament. INDIANAPOLIS (May 12, 2019) – After winning seven must-win games in a span of nine days, the Northeast-10 Conference champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team is headed back to the NCAA Championship for the second season in a row and the 15th time in program history. The Ravens have been selected as the eighth seed in the East Regional, as announced on Sunday night by the NCAA. Franklin Pierce will open play at its four-team, double-elimination sub-regional on Thursday, May 16, against top seed and host Adelphi.

(May 11, 2019) – A five-run fifth inning turned the tide for good on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University baseball team extended its season yet again at the Onondaga Baseball Complex, on the final day of the Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championship, hosted by Le Moyne. Junior right fielder John Mead (Washington Township, N.J.) went 4-for-4, as the Ravens posted an 8-5 win over Merrimack to force a winner-take-all final game later on Saturday.

Baseball Silences Merrimack in NE10 Championship Title Game, 3-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (May 11, 2019) – Graduate student right-hander Ryan Covelle (Medford, Mass.), graduate student right-hander Anthony Matarazzo (Medford, Mass.), senior left-hander Evan Glew (North Andover, Mass.) and senior right-hander Zach Hart (Wallingford, Conn.) combined to author a nine-hit shutout on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University baseball team claimed its league record sixth Northeast-10 Conference title. Two runs in the first were all the Ravens needed on the way to a 3-0 win over Merrimack to finish off their climb out of the loser’s bracket to the NE10 crown. Hart picked up his second save of the day to nail down the final game of the Northeast-10 Championship, hosted by Le Moyne at Onondaga Baseball Complex.

(May 10, 2018) – After staving off elimination each of the past two nights, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team – the fourth seed out of the Northeast Division – has found its way to the title round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Le Moyne, at the Onondaga Baseball Complex. The Ravens will square off with their divisional foe, third-seeded Merrimack, for the league crown. Coming out of the loser’s bracket, Franklin Pierce will need to defeat Merrimack twice to claim the trophy, while Merrimack needs just one win to successfully defend its title.

The Ravens scored first on Thursday afternoon at Onondaga Baseball Complex, but then surrendered the next 16 runs to host Le Moyne as part of a 16-2 loss to open the double-elimination portion of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

(May 9, 2019) – In a back-and-forth affair, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team did enough to stave off elimination on Thursday evening at the NE10 Championship, hosted by Le Moyne. The Ravens outlasted Southern Connecticut State, 9-5, as both teams piled up double-digit hits in the contest. Franklin Pierce took the lead for good on a three-run home run to left by senior designated hitter Ural Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) in the bottom of the fifth inning.
